Dom FeijãoOpens in a new tabAlvalade · RestaurantsDom Feijão is a grill restaurant in the Alvalade district of Lisbon, at Largo Machado de Assis 7D, 1700-116 Lisboa, close to Avenida de Roma. Its kitchen works in the tradition of traditional Portuguese cooking, and the name translates as Sir Bean. Lunch is served from 12:00 to 15:30 and dinner from 19:00 to 22:30, Monday to Saturday, and the restaurant is closed on Sundays. Guests are served at the table, and there is a spacious terrace as well as indoor dining. The story behind the restaurant starts with João Araújo. He and his brother António, together with their cousin José Pinto, all of them originally from Paredes de Coura, founded Os Courenses in 1992. João left in 2003 and ran a place called Sem Nome until November 2008. The following month he launched Dom Feijão. His wife, Estela Araújo, has always held the main responsibility for the kitchen. The restaurant calls itself modern, yet it aims to keep certain regional and traditional specialities alive. Each day from Monday to Saturday has its own speciality. Thursday brings dobrada in the style of Porto, Tuesday's dishes include iscas, and Saturday is described as a day of heavy traffic. Dishes listed for the restaurant include bacalhau à lagareiro, made with salt cod, garlic and olive oil, as well as picanha, grilled sea bass with sautéed vegetables, and small fish served with tomato rice. Lombinhos, filetes and batatinhas cazeiras also appear, and cheesecake is among the desserts. Coffee is on offer too. A writer for Salt of Portugal named it one of their favourite neighbourhood restaurants, praising the generous portions, modest prices and top-notch ingredients. Their meal began with fried marinated sardines and black-pork prosciutto, followed by poached cherne, grilled secretos, and grilled codfish with roasted potatoes in olive oil. A sável was in the refrigerator, but the waiter explained it needs slicing and several hours of marinating and cannot be rushed. Chef João Araújo told them that the ingredients are the restaurant's only luxury. The dining room is popular with families. The reservations line may go unanswered when the staff are very busy, so booking takes persistence. The number is +351 21 846 4038. Reservations are recommended for both lunch and dinner, and a wait for a table is usual. A paid garage lies beneath the restaurant, and the waiter can validate parking. Cards and contactless payments are accepted, and high chairs, Wi-Fi and wheelchair-accessible seating are available.

Biblioteca Nacional de PortugalOpens in a new tabAlvalade · Libraries & ArchivesLocated in Lisbon’s Alvalade neighborhood at Campo Grande 83, 1749-081, BNP is the largest library in Portugal. In 1796, a Royal Charter allowed the establishment of a Royal Public Library of the Court, the first official library of the current institution. The collection of the Library of the Royal Board of Censorship, first established in 1768, was the foundation of the Public Library of the Court. The Royal Charter ordered that the Public Library of the Court be situated in the Western Tower of the Terreiro do Paço. The Legal Deposit Law of 1805 required all printing offices in Portugal to deliver a copy of each work to the library. Following the 1834 dissolution of religious orders, the library became the National Library of Lisbon. Over the years, many convent and monastery libraries, or parts thereof, were turned over to the National Library. These collections outgrew the library’s Chiado facilities and, in 1958, construction began on a new library building. The library moved into its new building in 1969. During the 1980s, the library participated in a nationwide effort to computerize Portugal’s libraries and create the National Bibliographic Database (PORBASE). The library opened an Archive of Personal Papers of Writers. The library also established the BND,. In 2007, the National Library of Portugal adopted its present name. The library is open to the public and reading materials can be accessed through a Reader's Card. There are a number of collections including general and rare book and manuscript collections. Other materials include collections of music and maps. There are also services for the visually impaired. The library is open Monday through Saturday. There are reduced hours in the summer.
