Torre Vasco da GamaTorre Vasco da Gama stands in the Parque das Nações district of Lisbon, on the Tagus riverfront at Rua Cais das Naus 2 21.01, 1990-173 Lisboa. The tower rises 145 metres and is described as Portugal's tallest building. Its lattice framework gives it the profile of a swollen sail, and the shape also evokes a 16th-century caravel, with a distinctive crow's nest at the top. That profile recalls the countless ships that left the Tagus to discover the world, and the tower pays homage to Vasco da Gama's discovery of the sea route to India. Nick Jacobs and Leonor Janeiro designed it. It was built as an observation tower with panoramic elevators, and its official inauguration took place at Expo98. The viewpoint has reopened decades after that inauguration. The visit begins in a panoramic elevator that climbs the 145 metres in just a few seconds. Up top, wraparound windows give a 360º outlook over Parque das Nações, framing the city from an angle that no other viewpoint in Lisbon offers. Each window carries a QR code that identifies what you are looking at and guides the visit, with stories, curiosities about Portugal, tourist recommendations and tips on the panorama. When visibility is good, the view reaches well past the city limits. Landmarks you can pick out include the Lisbon Cable Car (Teleférico), Vasco da Gama Bridge, MEO Arena, Oriente Station, Lisbon Oceanarium and the Lisbon International Fair (FIL). The observation deck is open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with last access 30 minutes before closing. It closes on 25 December and 1 January. An adult ticket (13 and over) costs €10, a child ticket (5 to 12) costs €5, and a family ticket for two adults and two children costs €25. Children aged 4 and under enter free. Tickets are sold at kiosks at the door or online. Booking ahead is not required, but buying online is recommended to avoid waiting in line, especially at weekends and in peak season. Access is by elevator, with no stairs, and the visit suits all ages. Babylon 360º is a separate space with its own entrance, and the deck ticket does not include it. It is the rooftop bar and opens at 6 p.m. It is described as including a vertical garden and a spice-themed cocktail bar. The venue's listed hours run until midnight from Sunday to Wednesday and until 02:00 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a break from 17:30 to 18:00 on Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Vasco da Gama TowerThe Torre Vasco da Gama is a mixed-structure tower roughly 160 m tall, built beside the River Tagus in Parque das Nações, Lisbon, for EXPO'98, the 1998 World Exposition. It was designed by the American architecture firm SOM together with Profabril, and built by Somague. During the exposition, the structure at the top of the tower housed a restaurant with panoramic views over the River Tagus, initially operated under concession by José Manuel Trigo of T Clube. The restaurant remained open for about three years after the exposition.Parque das NaçõesMonuments & Historic Buildings
