Maria AzeitonaMaria Azeitona is a Portuguese restaurant at Rua Alfredo Keil 16, 2700-036 Amadora, on one of the main streets in the centre of town. It opened there in 2013 with a concept built around Portuguese cooking and petiscos for sharing. It is open every day, from 12:00 to 15:00 and again from 19:00 to 22:00, and the telephone number is 214066261. A blogger who visited in 2015 described a modern, light-wood room with almost spartan decoration and plain chairs, dominated by a large service counter, a wine cellar and, naturally, olives. Diners sat at a long shared table near a high window that screens out the bustle of the street, and three television screens were tuned to a cooking channel. The restaurant has 42 seats. According to the manager, Denise Albuquerque, lunch brings mostly people who work in nearby companies, while dinner attracts a younger crowd and runs in two sittings, at 19:30 and 21:30. The list of petiscos is long. The manager says a meal should begin with ovos rotos with Barrancos sausage and crunchy fried onion. Unlike the traditional Spanish version, the eggs here are scrambled. Other shared plates include gratinated mussels with Queijo da Ilha, gratinated goat's cheese with wild berries, fried cuttlefish in the style of Setúbal, ovos verdes, peixinhos da horta and pica-pau. The 2015 blogger picked the ovos verdes as a personal favourite, and the meal there opened with a couvert of seasoned olives, bread and fresh cheeses. Main dishes exist too, although the manager says many guests stick to sharing petiscos or order two mains for four people plus a set of starters. The menu includes flaked cod Lagareiro style on a bed of broa with spinach, hake fillets with clam rice and a Lisbon-style bitoque. It also has two salads and two vegetarian options, a risotto and a vegetable Brás. Reservations are recommended, and the 2015 blogger advised booking to avoid the usual queue. Besides the dining room, the restaurant offers takeaway collected on the premises, an express service that brings the order to your car, and home delivery to Amadora, Lisboa, Queluz, Belas, Massamá, Carnaxide, Linda-a-velha and Algés. Gift cards can be bought. Payment is accepted through PayPal, credit card, Multibanco and MBWay, with cash only for takeaway. The owner, Pedro Lopes, has opened branches in Aeródromo de Tires, Campo Pequeno and Campo de Ourique, the fourth in the brand, though the manager says Amadora remains the base.AmadoraRestaurants
