Landeau ChocolateOpens in a new tabAlcântara · Cafés & Coffee ShopsLandeau Chocolate is a small café in Lisbon's Alcântara neighbourhood. Its address is Rua Rodrigues Faria 103, 1300-501 Lisboa, inside the LX Factory complex. The place is built around one dessert, a chocolate cake, instead of a long list of pastries and sweets. Visitors describe a café that concentrates almost entirely on that single item, and the cake is the reason people go out of their way to find it. The venue is linked to pastry chef Sofia Landeau, who is said to have devoted herself to perfecting one cake recipe. The concept is minimalist, and the menu is intentionally tiny. The cake is made of several layers. Its interior is dense, fudgy and mousse-like, and the top carries a light dusting of bitter cocoa powder. To go with a slice, you can order espresso, tea or hot chocolate. The cake became popular through word of mouth, social media and travellers who kept talking about it after their visit. Many people call it the best chocolate cake in the world. One travel blogger, writing in March 2026 after a second trip to Lisbon, went in to test that reputation. They also noted that, despite the popularity, the room feels calm and welcoming rather than overly commercial. The café opens at 12:00 every day. From Monday to Saturday it stays open until 22:00, while on Sundays it closes at 20:00. The LX Factory branch can get busy, especially at weekends, and the advice is to skip peak weekend afternoons if you dislike queues. A weekday makes it easier to find a table. If every seat is taken, you can order a slice to go and eat it while walking around the courtyards. Landeau has other locations in Lisbon: Chiado, Campo de Ourique, and inside El Corte Inglés. The Chiado branch is described as more central and easier to reach while exploring the city, and it may suit anyone who wants a quieter visit than the LX Factory spot allows. The LX Factory area is worth time in its own right. It used to be an industrial zone and has been transformed into one of Lisbon's most creative districts. Within walking distance you will find bookstores, street art, boutiques, restaurants and cafés. The complex includes the Livraria Ler Devagar bookstore as well as local design shops, so a visit to the cake can easily turn into an afternoon spent wandering the industrial courtyards.
Quimera BrewpubOpens in a new tabAlcântara · Neighbourhood Bars & PubsQuimera Brewpub is at Rua Prior do Crato 6, 1350-261 Lisboa, in the Alcântara neighbourhood. It occupies an 18th-century tunnel with rugged stone walls and vaulted ceilings. The tunnel once served as a passageway for royal horses heading to the Palácio das Necessidades, the former royal palace that now houses the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Legend says Manuel II, Portugal's last king, used the same tunnel to escape during the Republican revolution of 1910. The pub opened in June 2016, created by the husband-and-wife team of Adam Heller and Raquel Nicoletti. Adam is a chef from Chicago who was formerly Head Chef of Insólito Restaurant. He first came to Lisbon with his parents, who had read about the city in The New York Times, and they rented an apartment next to Raquel's. Raquel is a Brazilian circus and theatre artist and classically trained musician who had lived in Lisbon for many years. The two met, fell in love and eventually married. Production is a priority here. Twelve taps pour a rotating selection that mixes Quimera's own craft beers with guest brews. The small brewery sits on a lower level of the same building, and Adam spends most days tending it. His Flemish Red Ale and Peach Gold, both barrel aged, won awards at the 2025 Lyon International Concours. Other drinks are available for different tastes. The menu takes its cue from New York delis and centres on gourmet sandwiches and burgers. The Pastrami Sandwich uses Portuguese beef that is cured, then stewed in beer, and finished with black pepper and mustard sauce. The Reuben Sandwich combines beer-braised beef, cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing. The cured meat is braised in beer for 24 hours. Salmon Toast is topped with capers, arugula, red onion and cream cheese alongside smoked salmon, while the Kimchi Burger pairs local beef with house-made kimchi and sriracha sauce. Vegan and vegetarian items, starters and light fare are also listed. Sandwiches come on artisanal bread from Gleba Bakery or focaccias by Pausa & Crescente, with potato chips and coleslaw. The kitchen also ferments its own vegetables, including sauerkraut and kimchi. Live music is part of the programme, with jazz nights and open-mic sessions. The space can be booked for private parties and special events. Opening hours are 17:00 to 23:00 on Wednesday and Thursday, 17:00 to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and 17:00 to 22:00 on Sunday.
