  1. Mú Gelato Italiano, Lisbon
    Mú Gelato Italiano
    Intendente
    Ice Cream & Dessert Shops
Mú Gelato Italiano is an ice cream shop in Lisbon's Intendente neighbourhood, at Campo Mártires da Pátria 50, 1150-225 Lisboa. It stands next to the hilltop garden, and it describes itself as a traditional laboratory making authentic Italian gelato. The shop opens every day of the week, from 12:30 to 20:00. Everything here is made by hand, using genuine ingredients, plenty of seasonal fruit and less sugar. The gelato is pasteurised and churned in front of customers every day, and the shop says it has nothing to hide. The workshop is in view inside the main shop, and the team follows the traditional Italian method. Their recipes rely on local fruit, fresh cream and only a little sugar. The ingredients come from local producers, and the gelato contains no preservatives, colourings, chemical flavourings or industrial pastes. There is a vegan gelato too, with no added sugar. The shop sums up its approach by saying its only trick is having no tricks. The brand holds that real happiness is healthy and sustainable, and that it can be tasted on a spoon. Its stated aim is to bring together pleasure, personal health and the wellbeing of the planet. Its identity is summed up as Italian tradition, inspiration and sustainability. The founder, Marco Bauli, was born in the Verona region of Italy and grew up in a family of pastry makers, surrounded by flour, sugar and sweets and by stories of recipes handed down through generations. He studied industrial design and spent several years working in communication and marketing before other adventures called. With his partner, Elena, he set out travelling. Their love of the sea brought them to Portugal, and their love of simple, genuine things made them stay. After studying the art of traditional gelato with masters of the Italian school, he opened the first Mú shop in Lisbon in 2013, at Campo dos Mártires de Pátria. He saw it as an artisanal laboratory where he could pursue a passion that was also a mission: a gelato that was not only good but also healthy and conscious. The name Mú is explained as more than the sound a cow makes. The brand presents it as a legendary, lost continent, an imaginary and unexplored territory from which humanity is thought to have descended. It also describes itself as a love story between Italian gelato tradition and the genuine quality of Portuguese products.

Cervejaria Ramiro is a seafood restaurant in Lisbon's Intendente neighbourhood, at Avenida Almirante Reis 1, 1150-007 Lisboa. The restaurant's own website gives the unit as 1-H. In Portuguese, a cervejaria is essentially a beer bar, usually serving draught beer along with a range of food. One reviewer describes Ramiro as a casual, no-frills spot for seafood and beer. The nearest metro stop is Intendente on the Green Line, about a two-minute walk away. A parking garage is listed at Travessa do Maldonado 1, 1100-329. The restaurant opens at 12:00 from Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays. Its website gives closing times of midnight from Tuesday to Saturday and 23:00 on Sunday. Take-away and delivery run from 12:00 to 21:00, Tuesday to Sunday. The take-away number is (+351) 969839472, and group bookings go through ramiro@cervejariaramiro.pt. Tables can be reserved online through the restaurant's website. A deposit of €25 per person is credited to the final bill. One review says Ramiro once took only walk-ins, and guests can still turn up and take a paper queue ticket, though booking ahead is advised. Another reviewer, who had a reservation, still found a small line out the door and waited just under ten minutes after giving a name. People waiting outside have been able to buy a €2 draught beer from a coin-operated machine. The dining area spreads over several floors. One reviewer favours the ground-floor room, where tables are covered in white butcher paper. Shellfish is the focus. The menu includes oysters, clams, prawns, lobster, crab, crayfish and goose barnacles, plus pata negra, a local cured ham. Prices are set by weight, and reviewers say the waiters will suggest what and how much to order. Dishes mentioned by reviewers include Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato, clams cooked with olive oil, garlic, cilantro, salt, pepper and dry white wine. They also mention grilled giant tiger prawns, called gamba tigre, and sapateira, a crab dip. A steak sandwich, the prego, is another order, and one visitor finished with Azorean mango. Bread with butter arrives for soaking up the clam broth. On cost, one reviewer paid under €65.01 for two people. Another puts the average at €40 to €60 a head with beer or wine, and more if you choose large scarlet prawns or crab. According to one review, the place began in 1956 as a casual spot for fresh seafood and beer.
  3. Casa Independente, Lisbon
    Casa Independente
    Intendente
    Cafés & Coffee Shops
Located at Largo do Intendente 45, 1100-285 Lisboa, Casa Independente is a cultural centre and bar in the Intendente district of Lisbon. Housed in a historical building from the 19th Century, it offers a programme of musical performances, exhibitions and parties. The venue also has a terrace. It's listed hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 2 PM to midnight, Friday from 2 PM to 2 AM and Saturday from noon to 2 AM. The hours for other days are not listed. The cultural center opened its doors in 2012 during a movement to redevelop the area that had previously been known for prostitution and the drug trades. It has been stated that Casa Independente was pivotal in contributing to the cultural transformation of Lisbon. It has also been stated that Casa Independente has been the bohemian heart of the neighborhood and the most relevant nighttime and musical establishment in the area. Time Out Lisboa reported on September 29, 2025 that the building was sold and the lease was not renewed. Craveiro Lopes and Valdez were notified of the sale in October 2023. The duo wished to relocate the project by March 2026. More recently, the project owner reached an agreement to extend the project for an additional year. Due to this agreement, the project will close its doors in December 2026. According to the project owner, multiple solutions to extend the project's operation past 2026 were not successful. The project owner added that, during the current political term, the project's efforts to use a municipal building, under the protection of the current council, was unsuccessful. The project owner believes the building's owner, like many building owners in Lisbon, opted to promote projects that are more profitable, like hotels and condos, rather than supporting cultural projects. As the project is set to close its doors, the owner intends to implement programs that will establish the center as a project of resistance and celebration. As noted by On the Grid, the neighborhood of Intendente has a diverse and multicultural population. The area has been improving in recent years and features a mix of 19th century buildings.
