Mosteiro de OdivelasIn Odivelas, on the periphery of Lisbon, is the Mosteiro de Odivelas, or Convento de São Dinis, which is officially titled the Monastery of St. Dinis and St. Bernard. It is located at Rua da Fonte, 2675-292. According to one source, its status as a national monument began in 1910. King Dinis, in 1295, is said to have founded this Cistercian monastery. One of the legends of the origins of the monastery says King Dinis was attacked by a bear while hunting in the Alentejo. The various restorations performed on the monastery during different historical periods are evidenced in the styles of the architecture. The cloisters show traces of the Manueline style. Other styles, such as the Baroque, are evident in the various chapels, porches and azulejos of the monastery. Visits are run by the Câmara Municipal de Odivelas and attendance is limited to 20 people per visit. The page by the council for the year 2026 notes guided visits from July to October at 16h and 17h30, and in November and December at 15h and 16h30, respectively. The visits may be thematic and cover different subjects, including the conservation and restoration, azulejos and sculpture, the hydraulic system, archaeology and the tombs of D. Dinis and the Infante. More information may be obtained by calling 219 320 942/943 or by sending an e-mail to visitas.mosteirodeodivelas@cm-odivelas.pt. The monastery is not accessible to people with restricted mobility. A different web page of the council notes two visits each month with a limit of 20 people for each visit. The visits are scheduled at 15h00 and 16h30 and cost 2,00€. The visits may be paid for at the council's treasury in Odivelas or at the Loja Turismo de Odivelas located in Strada Shopping & Fashion Outlet, Estrada da Paiã, Casal da Troca. This web page noted that the visits were sold out. The municipality of Odivelas in the Greater Lisbon region has 144,549 inhabitants (2011).OdivelasMonuments & Historic Buildings
