Café da GaragemOpens in a new tabMouraria · Cafés & Coffee ShopsCafé da Garagem is located at Costa do Castelo 75, 1100-178 Lisboa. It is connected to the Teatro da Garagem, that has its facilities in the building below the St. George’s castle. The café is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:30 to 19:00. Café da Garagem was opened by Teatro da Garagem in November 2011 to extend their artistic activities to the public with a café-bar to be used for informal meetings and conversations. The artistic company worked with the performing arts in the works of Carlos J. Pessoa. The main attraction of the bar, besides the welcoming and informal space it offers, is the stunning view of the city and river. In 2022, Pendulum Magazine wrote an article about the café that described the bar as hidden in the theatre company’s premises, two floors down from the unassuming company entrance. Customers can grab a bite to eat before or after a show and enjoy a drink in a space that encourages mingling. The reviewer ordered the Tuna and Beef Ceviche, where the kitchen combines tuna with raw beef and serves it with greens, beet cubes, with a fried cheese waffle topped with brie, arugula and honey, and served with yam chips. The reviewer thought the prices of the dish and the waffle (8.50 and 9 euros respectively) were very low. The reviewer also appreciated the housemade ginger and cinnamon lemonade. A place that inspires interaction and provokes conversation, the cafe extends its invitation to the city. Since 2026, the Café has organized the “Noites Dada” (Dada Nights) to emphasize the rupture and the provocative and irreverent nature of Dadaism.

TopoOpens in a new tabMouraria · Bars & NightlifeTopo is a rooftop cocktail bar and restaurant in Lisbon, listed under bars and nightlife. It occupies the sixth floor of the Centro Comercial Martim Moniz, on Praça Martim Moniz, in the Mouraria neighbourhood. The full address is Centro Comercial Martim Moniz, 6 Andar, 1100-341 Lisboa, and one listing gives the unit as sala I. The terrace faces the Mouraria quarter and the Castle of São Jorge, and the sightlines are described as unobstructed. One summary places the opening in the mid-2010s. Reaching the bar means a low-key ascent through the shopping centre from the square below. The rooftop sits on top of the building and is framed by open air rather than glass. Tables are spread across a concrete deck, and the city noise arrives softened by the height. Another account suggests taking one of the wooden benches outside and lingering over a cocktail with Portuguese appetizers. From the terrace, Mouraria spreads downhill to the left, the castle anchors the skyline above, and terracotta rooflines fill the middle distance. In the afternoon the light moves across the castle walls. Topo is also a restaurant. AFAR's January/February 2016 issue quoted Epalanga saying that chef Miguel Simoes de Almeida prepares Portuguese dishes with a modern and global twist. Epalanga's advice was to try the alheira croquettes. That piece calls the building a small shopping centre. The venue works as a hybrid. By day it is a relaxed terrace, and later it turns into an energetic cocktail bar. The En Primeur Club says the terrace draws a mix of locals and informed visitors, who treat it as an after-work ritual rather than a tourist stop. The same source says guests who come before sunset claim the leading spots along the parapet. The crowd thickens as the light drops and the castle lights come on, and the evening builds over an hour or two. Its advice is to arrive before sunset. The same source says Martim Moniz is not Bairro Alto or Príncipe Real. It describes the square as sitting at the intersection of the city's oldest migrant communities and its most volatile real estate pressures. It adds that the bars and restaurants established there relate to the neighbourhood differently from venues in more polished districts. Topo opens at 12:30 every day. It closes at 01:00 from Monday to Wednesday and on Sunday, and at 02:00 from Thursday to Saturday. The En Primeur Club lists a price of $30–50 per person, recommends reservations and gives the dress code as casual.
The Food TempleOpens in a new tabMouraria · RestaurantsThe Food Temple is a restaurant at Beco do Jasmim 18, 1100-289 Lisboa, in the Mouraria neighbourhood of Lisbon. The restaurant presents itself as Lisbon's first vegan restaurant. It opened 13 years ago as a pioneer of vegan cuisine in the city and has stayed in the heart of Mouraria ever since. Mouraria is a historic, multicultural district of labyrinthine alleyways. The restaurant describes the identity of the place as unique, and says many people have helped create it over the years: teams, chefs, foodies, friends, neighbours and loyal customers. It says it has lived many lives already, yet one thing has stayed the same. Each evening, on the stairs of Mouraria that it calls iconic, it keeps writing its next chapter alongside old friends and new faces. It is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 19:30 to midnight. The restaurant admits that, like all good things, it is not always easy to find. Google Maps often loses its way in the Mouraria labyrinth, so the restaurant suggests consulting the map on its own website. It lies 5 minutes from the main square of Martim Moniz. Anyone who feels lost can phone the restaurant or ask the neighbours nearby, who will gladly point the way. Cars cannot enter the neighbourhood, so the restaurant invites guests to enjoy a stroll on foot instead. The Food Temple is a small place, and booking ahead is always recommended. Tables can be booked through the website. Those who simply pop by, alone or with company, will find the staff always trying to fit them in, since hospitality, the restaurant says, is what it does. For groups of more than 9 people, the restaurant asks that guests get in touch directly, by email at thefoodtemple@gmail.com or through social media. Guests running late should give notice as soon as possible, and the restaurant says it will do its best to accommodate them. A table is held for 15 minutes, after which the restaurant may treat the booking as a no show. Anyone with dietary requirements, food allergies or intolerances should say so when booking, and certain allergen-friendly alternative menus may be available on request. Because the kitchen is open, animals cannot come inside the restaurant, although pets are welcome at the outdoor seating. Strollers and prams are not accepted inside because of limited space. Children are welcome, but the restaurant has no baby chairs and cannot provide child-friendly menus.
