Casa NepalesaCasa Nepalesa is a restaurant at Avenida Elias Garcia 172A, 1050-103 Lisboa, in the Avenidas Novas neighbourhood. It stands close to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. The restaurant opened in 2010 and is led by chef Tanka Sapkota. It offers the cooking of Nepal, pairing products from the Himalayas with Portuguese ingredients. Spices are ground on the premises to reflect the chef's heritage. The atmosphere is described as tranquil and immersive. Sapkota was born in Damek, Nepal, in 1974 and grew up in a farming family. He left Nepal partly to avoid the tradition of arranged marriages, abandoned a law degree and went to Stuttgart. There he washed dishes, worked as a kitchen assistant, made pizzas and waited tables before becoming a chef. A trip to Portugal planned for two weeks became a lifetime, and in 1999 he opened his first restaurant, Come Prima, in Lisbon. He also owns Forno d'Oro and Il Mercato, so Casa Nepalesa is one of four Lisbon restaurants under his name. He was the architect and decorator of the space, which is meant to give diners a seat at the table of a traditional family home in Nepal. Some dishes follow secret recipes from his mother and grandmother. The ingredients combine Nepali tradition with Portuguese territory: certified Transmontano goat, wild boar from Évora, wild asparagus, boletus and chestnuts. Other inspirations include a steamed wheat pastry, goat offal, fermented leafy greens, handmade samosas and momos. The teas come from the Ilam region. The menu shows this range. Momo ra chatani is a steamed wheat pastry filled with black pork and free-range chicken. Bakhra ko maasu ko jhol ra yarchagumba is a goat soup cooked slowly for several hours with grated Yarchagumba. This is a combination of caterpillar and fungus found only in the Himalayas above 4000m. The chef brought it from Nepal because he wants to promote his country's culture and make hard-to-reach ingredients more accessible. Masaledar jhinge machha is prawns in a traditional curry sauce. Bandel kurilo is Évora wild boar cooked slowly for 9 hours with fresh asparagus and the same style of curry sauce. The restaurant also has a wine list, cocktails and gins, and desserts. Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 to 14:30 and from 18:30 to 22:30. On Saturday it serves lunch from 12:00 to 14:45 and dinner from 18:30 to 22:30. On Monday it opens only for dinner, from 18:30 to 22:15, and on Sunday it is closed. Reservations can be made on +351 217 979 797.Avenidas NovasRestaurants

Museu Calouste GulbenkianThe Museu Calouste Gulbenkian stands at Avenida de Berna 45A, 1067-001 Lisboa, in the Avenidas Novas neighbourhood. It opens from Wednesday to Monday, between 10:00 and 18:00. Sources describe it as a calm cultural refuge set in the heart of Lisbon, away from the busy tourist areas of Belém and the Baixa, and many regard it as among Europe's finest private art museums. The institution occupies a garden campus of 7.5 hectares and rests on two cultural pillars. The first is the Founder's Collection, shown in the main museum building. It draws on the personal collection assembled by Gulbenkian, and roughly 1,000 to 2,000 pieces are on display at any one time. Rather than sorting works by medium, the galleries follow chronology and geography, so a visit moves through thousands of years of human creativity. Gulbenkian's collection is described as eclectic and meticulously curated, and the display is arranged so that a visitor can walk through it without a break between eras. The material falls into several areas. Egyptian, Greco-Roman and Mesopotamian art brings together mummy masks, ancient coins, Roman medallions and ancient glassware. Islamic art includes Persian carpets, Iznik ceramics and mosque lamps dating from the 12th to the 18th centuries. European art runs from the Renaissance through the Impressionists, with works by Rembrandt, Rubens, Manet, Degas and Renoir. A dedicated room presents jewellery, glass art and tiaras by René Lalique, an Art Nouveau master. The Persian carpets are called exquisite, the Roman medallions stunning, and the Lalique room jaw-dropping. The second pillar is the Modern Art Centre, known as CAM, which sits in a separate building on the same grounds. It concentrates on twentieth-century and contemporary Portuguese art and is described as holding the largest collection of that kind. Alongside it, the centre hosts major international temporary exhibitions and rotating installations of sound, video and design. It stands apart from the main museum building yet shares its garden setting. Descriptions of the museum stress its human scale. It is called intimately scaled, brilliantly lit and peaceful, in contrast to cavernous national museums that can induce museum fatigue. The same sources say the 5,000 years of art can be viewed in a fluid journey without that fatigue. In short, the museum combines a lush garden campus with two collections under separate roofs, one of historic range and one of recent Portuguese art.Avenidas NovasMuseums
Ground BurgerGround Burger is a burger restaurant at Avenida António Augusto de Aguiar 148, in the Avenidas Novas neighbourhood of Lisbon, postcode 1050-021. Its own website lists this branch under the name São Sebastião, and the street number is given as 148A. The restaurant opens at noon and stays open until midnight, with the kitchen taking its last orders at 23:30. Tables can be booked through the website, which also links to the food menu, a separate beer menu and delivery through Glovo. Time Out gives the price of a meal as up to €20. The restaurant presents itself as American-inspired. According to its company profile, the beef is certified 100% Black Angus, ground fresh every day and cooked to order. A guide built on chefs' recommendations adds that everything is made in-house and fresh daily, from the buns and fries to the milkshakes. Time Out describes a 150-gram portion of Black Angus meat inside a brioche bun made on site and toasted inside, combined with quality ingredients and served with onion rings. It also notes that the preparation happens in full view of the customers. The menu is classic American fare: burgers, hand-cut fries, thick shakes and a large selection of craft beer, served on tap and in bottles. The company says its homemade milkshakes follow a secret recipe, and that it offers both imported and local craft beers. Time Out mentions XL milkshakes and says the menu pairs well with them and with the craft beers. The item it suggests trying is the Ground Burger, which comes with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, purple onion and GB sauce. The company lists its specialties as burgers, fries, shakes and beers. The chefs' guide describes the atmosphere as welcoming and free of pretension, a place built for flavour rather than fuss, with a loyal following among locals and visitors alike. It names several chefs who choose the restaurant, including Vitor Sobral of Tasca da Esquina, Pedro Pena Bastos, chef and owner of Broto, Gil Fernandes, executive chef at Fortaleza do Guincho, and Fagner Buzinhani, executive chef at GoJuu. The guide dates the restaurant from 2015. Ground Burger has three further sites in Lisbon: Santa Apolónia, at Av. NómadaNómada is a Japanese-fusion restaurant in the Avenidas Novas neighbourhood of Lisbon, at Avenida Visconde Valmor 56 D/E, 1050-241 Lisboa, telephone (+351) 917 779 737. It began at number 40A of the same avenue, in a ground-floor space with a back terrace where a café called Melt had operated. Visão reported that former Sushic team members opened it on 3 August. The restaurant later moved to a new space less than 200 meters away, designed by Spacegram Studio for 80 diners instead of 60. The kitchen blends fusion sushi and traditional Asian cooking with European and Portuguese flavours, using fresh and seasonal ingredients. Chef Francisco Bessone guides the menu, and Visão named chefs Mário Ribeiro and Bruno Oliveira alongside him. Time Out describes gunkans, temakis, makis, ceviches and carpaccios, with varied fish, some from the Azores, alongside fried dishes, sauces and sugar. It recommends the tataki tuna. It rated the restaurant 4 out of 5 stars. Visão's review listed oysters with kimuchi, coriander shoots and passion fruit spherification at €3 each, and a white fish ceviche with tiger's milk, chips and sweet potato purée at €11. The Gunkan MR, at €8, wraps rice in salmon and tops it with scallop flambéed in Carcavelos wine. The Naco Nómada, at €15, sits under puff pastry and held bacon and cheese that day. Giscard Müller designed a wine list made up almost entirely of unfamiliar labels. Visão gave an average price of €30, while Time Out says up to €30. The Avenidas Novas interior draws on Japanese symbolism. Asase, a contemporary piece, reinterprets a school of fish swimming in one direction. The ceiling cloths take inspiration from nerons, linen elements once used against wind, rain and dust. Spacegram describes a low-lit setting of natural materials and calm colours. It has Lioz stone tables and countertops, kombu-inspired green walls, burnt-yellow chairs that echo karashi mustard, oak details and untreated brass. A 2:1 tatami ratio organises the layout. Seating includes counter service, group tables and more intimate arrangements. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 12:00-15:00 and 19:00-23:00, Friday 12:00-15:00 and 19:00-23:30, Saturday 12:00-15:30 and 19:00-23:30, and Sunday 12:30-15:30 and 19:00-23:00. ElevenEleven is a restaurant in the Avenidas Novas neighbourhood of Lisbon, at Rua Marquês de Fronteira, 1070-001 Lisboa. It stands next to the Amália Rodrigues Garden, at the top of Parque Eduardo VII, on one of the highest points in the city. A Google overview describes it as a modern fine-dining destination that combines Mediterranean gastronomy with striking architectural design and panoramic views. The restaurant's own website places it on the highest hilltop in the city and mentions a magnificent view over the Old City. The kitchen is led by chef Joachim Koerper, who describes his cooking as Mediterranean and says he works exclusively with seasonal products. The restaurant presents its concept as sophisticated Mediterranean cuisine that uses only the freshest products available, and it calls the cooking creative. Koerper fell in love with the cuisine and ingredients of Southern Europe long ago. The concept is closely linked to his skills and to his wish to adapt his creativity to the place where his restaurants are located. That means recreating traditional recipes and finding new ways to use ingredients from local markets. His career began 50 years ago in Germany, his home country. Over the following five decades he lived and cooked in several countries, where he trained and gained experience as a chef. He describes the menu as a voyage through that life route, with creations built around the places that meant the most to him, and he hopes diners will find his essence in them. The ambiance is described as cosmopolitan and comfortable. Drapes, candles, soft lights and music transform the space to create an atmosphere that is vibrant during the day and intimate at night. The restaurant advises reserving a table in advance, and a booking option appears on the website, which is available in English and Portuguese. Eleven also hosts events for groups, and its website presents it as a place for celebrating special moments, both personal and professional, including weddings. It calls the venue a stunningly beautiful place, citing its location and its view. For weddings, hosts can welcome guests at the hilltop venue and treat them to Koerper's creations. A private room with a terrace overlooking Lisbon is available. The space is described as full of character and originality. Lunch is served from 12:30 to 15:00 and dinner from 19:30 to 23:00, Monday to Saturday.Avenidas NovasRestaurants

O Talho has a shop where customers can purchase a variety of meats as well as sausages, dry aged meat and other products. The shop also has wine and potato chips.
