At Rua das Trinas 129, 1200-857 Lisboa, in the Estrela neighborhood of Lisbon is Clube de Jornalistas restaurant. One source places the restaurant in the center of Lapa. Originally a mansion built in the 18th century, the restaurant occupies the building and utilizes the green door as the restaurants main entrance. The restaurant is open to the public and one does not need to be a member of the press club to dine there. The restaurant is known to host diplomats, politicians and members of the press. The Clube de Jornalistas officially opened in 1986. During the Salazar regime, members of the press used a secret meeting place in Casa da Imprensa, located in the Chiado district of Lisbon. Chef and co-owner Andre Magalhaes brings a unique perspective as a food and wine journalist and member of the Slow Food movement. The restaurant has an inner garden and several different dining rooms. The main dining room is in the old kitchen. The garden is an outdoor dining area in the warmer months. The kitchen presents a creative take on Mediterranean cuisine, and reflects the Portuguese tradition of winemaking with a wine cellar. It charges a cover charge of €2.50 per person. Some of the dishes on the current menu include pumpkin soup ( €7), eggplant ( €9), octopus ( €27), tiger prawns ( €30), and fish of the week ( €28). Desserts include chocolate cake with hazelnut crumble (€7.50) and cannoli with foie gras (€9). The restaurant has noted that its food may contain gluten and nuts. It has also asked customers that may be allergic to contact the staff. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. It offers lunch services from 12:30 pm to 14:30 pm, and from the same time on Saturdays.
