Restauradores SquareOpens in a new tabBairro Alto · Squares, Streets & BridgesStanding at the beginning of the Avenida da Liberdade, with Rossio Square just a short distance away, Praça dos Restauradores is an important square in Lisbon. Its address is Praça dos Restauradores, 1250-188 Lisboa. The main feature of this square is the Obelisk in the center which was built in 1886, and designed by António Tomás da Fonseca. The one on the south side is Liberty and the other is Victory. Palácio Foz is the main building on the square. Between the years of 1755 and 1777 it was built for the marquis of Castelo-Melhor, and was later on named after the marquis of Foz. It has been restored to give it more of an Italian look. From these guided tours, one can view the Sala dos Espelhos, which is a large hall decorated with many ornate mirrors. On this side of the palace is the former Teatro Eden, an Art Deco theater designed by Cassiano Branco and Carlo Florencio Dias. From 1989 to 2001, the theater was abandoned and then turned into a hotel. The atrium is covered by plants. The Condes Cinema, built in 1951 in the style of modernism, was reopened in 2003 as a Hard Rock Café. Several buses depart from the square including 759 to the Tile Museum and 709 to Campo de Ourique. The southern part of the square has a monument dedicated to the pavers of Lisbon and shows two statues representing pavers and creating a design for a caravel. The Moorish Revival Cultural Center Casa do Alentejo, once a private residence, is on the adjacent street and has a restaurant. Nearby is Fábrica da Nata for pastries and hot pastry.
