Alegro Alfragide is a shopping and leisure center in Avenida dos Cavaleiros, 60, 2790-045 Carnaxide, approximately 10 minutes by car from the center of Lisbon. It is open every day of the week from 10:00 to 23:00. It opened in 2007 with a total investment of 63 million euros from the development branch of the group Auchan, known as Immochan. Its launch was based on an original show, with stilt walkers, snake charmers and fire eaters. The management of the center is currently in the hands of nhood. With the opening of the center, 120 shops and 20 restaurants were revealed, in addition to 10 cinemas. Recently, nhood referred 124 shops. The center was presented as a place irrespective of the consumer's spending capacity. The two most prominent stores when the center opened were a Jumbo hypermarket of 11,000 square meters and Fnac. The Jumbo hypermarket was the first where shoppers were allowed to use bar code readers to read the codes on products, give the total of their purchases and pay via automatic machines. The first report estimated the area at 39,500 meters and indicated 2,500 free parking spaces. Nhood estimates the area at 59,579 meters. The centre was estimated to attract 10 million shoppers in its first year. It was estimated to create 5,200 direct and indirect jobs. The centre was estimated to serve the 2 million inhabitants of Lisbon, Amadora, Oeiras, Cascais and Sintra. Nhood estimates the population served at 313,000. As noted by Nhood, the centre offers a range of stores and services including a hypermarket, conviviality, tranquillity, free parking, contactless payment, image consultancy, charging stations for electric vehicles, Alegro Dog Friendly, Alegro Bus, and a range of environmental initiatives. The centre is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certified and BREEAM In-Use certified. The centre employs ecologial and automated cleaning technologies and practices, rainwater harvesting, recycling and a landfill avoidance policy. Nhood notes the partnership with local community associations, the Town Hall, and the over 1,000 jobs offered by the centre.
