Museu da CarrisOpens in a new tabAlcântara · MuseumsThe Museu da Carris is located in the Alcântara district of Lisbon, at Rua 1º de Maio 101-103, Lisboa. It documents Lisbon’s public transport and shows how the city developed, as described on the Visit Lisboa website. The museum has a huge workshop shed and displays public transport from the age of horse drawn carriages to the buses of the second half of the 20th century. There are several rooms that each cover a different time period in the public transport of Lisbon. The first rooms show the company’s beginnings and public transport of that time that was pulled by animals. Later sections cover the Age of Electric Traction, various transport innovations,. The Museu da Carris has a shop that sells Lisbon themed souvenirs. The museum organizes different activities and exhibitions. One of these exhibitions commemorates the 125th anniversary of Lisbon's electric traction, and is organized together with GAU (Urban Art Gallery). C’Marie, Daniela Guerreiro, Mariana Duarte Santos, and Jorge Charrua have displayed their work in different places of the museum and the Santo Amaro depot. The remaining work of this exhibition is made up of photographs that are aligned along the route. Another exhibition is the result of projects conducted in the Alcântara neighborhood. The students of the UAS, and the students of class 2E and 4F at the Raúl Lino School have also participated in this exhibition. The museum collections provide information about the transport of the past, present, and future. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm and from 2pm to 6pm. Last admission is at 12:30pm and 5:30pm. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. Individual entrance is 4,50 euros. Reduced rate tickets are 2,5 euros for people from 6 to 18 years old, seniors and unemployed. The Lisbon card is valid for a discount. Tram 15, and Cascais line trains (from Cais do Sodré station) have a stop near the Museum. LX Factory is also near the museum. It is also conveniently located near the Santo Amaro view point, and Chapel.
