Biblioteca Pública Municipal do PortoOpens in a new tabBolhão · Libraries & ArchivesThe Municipal Public Library of Porto is located at Rua Dom João IV, 17, in the neighborhood of Bolhão, in the city of Porto. It has its seats in the former convent of Santo António da Cidade since 1842. The building of the convent is from the 18th century, and is of public interest. The first collection was made up by the libraries of the Religious Orders and by personal libraries. By a decree of its creation, the Library had the right to receive a copy of all the books that were published in the country. The collection spans from the Middle Ages up to contemporary times, and has a good number of manuscripts. It has an important collection of musical manuscripts and a collection of letters, documents and manuscripts, of several poets, writers and personalities. The collection also contains a Camillian Collection, devoted to the writer Camilo, which has, among other things, manuscripts and letters written by him, and printed works about him, as well as his personal belongings. Of note within the library are the decorative tiles and the patio. One of the guides dedicated to the libraries of Porto notes the peaceful environment of the library, and includes it in other locations of Porto that are quiet and suitable for studying and remote working. There are several services offered by the library. It provides free internet access and a card reader, and limited access to audiobooks, to blind and partially sighted people, through its Digital Sound Library. Other services offered include a smoking area. The library is open Tuesday to Friday from 9am to 7.30 pm, and from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturdays and Mondays. Other contact details are available, including a phone number and email. The library website should be consulted for up to date information.
